NTD - Littoral Combat Ships, Corvettes & Fast Patrol Boats
Networking NTDs allows the exchange of data and control of ship’s sensors. The tactical features provide the user with powerful command and control functions as we as compilation of the Recognised Maritime Picture.
Target acquisition and indication for weapon control system can be included as an option for close-in weapons systems, medium and small calibre guns. This option for tactical picture, weapons control workstations significantly reduces the cost and necessity for bespoke or traditional command systems. In addition, the use of common technology throughout a vessel significantly diminishes the need for costly onboard spares.
Combining the NTD facilities with high-speed radar options, where vessel speed is more than 30 knots, Kelvin Hughes is able to design alternatives to the traditional command system and stand-a one bridge radar and ECDIS. The NTD range includes single use ARPA radar and WECDIS displays and multi-use workstations.
With third party software Kelvin Hughes is able to offer the NTD as a machinery/propulsion control terminal, communication workstation, damage control and engine monitoring system. The inherent flexibility and modular nature of the NTD is used to greatest effect when combinations of displays, processors and software options are used to form Naval Integrated Bridge Systems (IBS). The NTD IBS is able to act as a command system, bridge and navigation system, machinery control system and communications system. This gives added system redundancy and reduces the cost of stand-a one systems, which in turn reduces logistical costs.
